Gaul[]

Gaul was a Celtic people that had existed before the Romans even started marching north. They are absolutely unrelated to France apart from their physical location -- which was just as much in Spain as in France. Gallic culture essentially ceased to exist after they were conquered by Julius Caesar, and their language disappeared with it. Their ways, their tongue -- both either gone or assimilated into Roman culture, and it was so for almost three hundred years. France is only related to a few barbarian cultures -- the Franks and a few other Germanic tribes. France shares no relation to any Celtic nation other than Brittany. Gaul is simply on this page because it represents the previous Geographical location before France. And the genetics of many Celtic peoples who made up the Gallo-Roman stock during the age of the Roman Empire are still present among the French population today. --Byzantine Latinkon 01:32, March 12, 2011 (UTC)
Well it needs to have a disclaimer that Gaul isn't in any way related to France as a political/cultural entity. And I know that there are still Gallic genes in modern populations. It's not like they were all put to the sword when Julius Caesar invaded. YuriKaslov 00:50, March 17, 2011 (UTC)
