Theigns are freemen farmers who own land of some sustenance. Required to own mail and shield, these Theigns also come equipped with a short spear for combat. Loyal to the Saxon throne, these men will fight to defend their freedom.
Theigns, literally ministers, were higher ranked farmers in Early Medieval Northern Europe. Theigns either owned land or had reasonable powers over those that did. They, though not soldiers, usually had military experience and most likely owned their own weapons and amours. In the battle of Hastings they would have been called to battle like the other civilian units to help in the national war effort.
- This unit only appears in the Battle of Hastings historical battle.
