Owari is a province in Total War: Shogun 2, Rise of the Samurai, and Fall of the Samurai.

Description[]

Situated on the fertile Chubu plain, Owari boasts an impressive military tradition as the birthplace of great commanders such as Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Kato Kiyomasa. Military and manufacturing industry are still well represented here. Toyota, the Japanese car manufacturer, has its origins within the borders of this province, while the nearby towns of Seto and Nagakute hosted the 2005 World Expo.

Total War: Shogun 2[]

Home to the Oda Clan, Owari is a very wealthy province thanks to its high fertility. From Owari, the Oda have good expansion opportunities in several directions, but are equally vulnerable to attack from multiple sides. A Tokugawa army usually invades Owari by the end of the first turn, and the Oda also have to deal with the hostile Saito Clan to the north, in Mino.

As Owari is the home region of a major clan, if it is captured it has unusually high unrest, making garrison troops, agents, or the quelling of rebellions necessary to maintain control of it.

Owari borders Mino to the north, Mikawa to the southeast, and Ise to the west.

Rise of the Samurai[]

  • Clan: Shiba (Minamoto)
  • Port: Coastal Village
  • Fertility: Very Fertile
  • Specialty/Resource: None

Owari remains a rich province despite its lack of a specialty or resource. It is a potential annexation target by the Fukuhara Taira, Kiso Minamoto or Kamakura Minamoto by the mid-game.

Fall of the Samurai[]

  • Clan: Nagoya (Shogunate)
  • Port: Harbour
  • Fertility: Very Fertile
  • Specialty/Resource: Smithing

Owari now has the smithing specialty, making it a potentially excellent training hub. It is particularly close to the Tsu and Obama domains.

Unlike most smithing provinces in Fall of the Samurai, Shogun 2 or Rise of the Samurai, Owari is relatively close to other smithing provinces (Sagami and Kaga), making it arguably less vital than more remote smithing provinces as a recruitment hub. It retains its very fertile soil from previous iterations, meaning it is just as useful as a money making province.
