Sorry for the late update I've been very, very busy.
On the 26th May, 2011 the Creative Assembly have announced the first DLC for Total War: Shogun 2 - the Ikko Ikki "Clan" DLC - they studied fan feed back and have decided to profit on their demands. As well as the new clan the DLC includes a new agent the Ikko Ikki Monk and 8 new units exclusive to the new "clan".
Sadly, this news confirms suspicions that the Creative Assembly are ending Mod support, the new "tough nut" data files were cryptic for a reason.
The "startpos.esf" file from previous games has been found... but there's three of them...
C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\total war shogun 2\data\campaigns\benchmarks
C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\data\total war shogun 2\data 2\
[The last one is in the patch file - I haven't got the address]
To see these files you need to unpack the data file. There's a number of softwares that can do this for you.
Like in all past Total War games the Shogun 2 gamer fanbase is interested in the creation of a playable factions mod. A factions mod is a mod that allows players to play as factions non-playable in the original release of the game. As of now, April, there is no released mod for the full game.
- How come?
- What’s taking so long?
- When [insert game here] was released they had a mod out in week!
The reason why the game modding is taking so long is because of the changes that the game designers at The Creative Assembly have done to the game loading scripts. Changes that some mods have seen as an anti modding measure mean that making factions playable isn't as simple as it used to be. We can no longer simply replace a XML checkbox 'No' with a 'Yes' as was the case in the older games. Factions now have megabytes worth of XML prose which require elite modding skills to alter.
Is anyone at TW wikia creating a mod?
No, the Total War wikia is a wikimedia encyclopedia, it doesn't create or release mods. It acts as a resource site for people interested in the total war series. As of yet the total war wiki doesn't house any members active in game modding.
